Wine  and Food Matching with The Master

Everything you ever wanted to know about wine, and how it works with food, with Peter McCombie, Master of Wine.

Whether you are entertaining for business or dining out for pleasure, knowing about wine is important, but that knowing what wine works with what food is essential.

At Wine School at The Don, on the first Monday of each month, you will taste a fascinating variety of wines under Peter's expert tutelage, then sit down to a three-course meal, specially created by our chef to complement those wines.

The Masterclass will start at 6.30 and last approximately three hours in the Private Room at The Don , which for 200 years housed the Cellars of the Sandeman Port  Company. The Don has won the Wine Spectator "World's Best Wine Lists" award for the past seven years.

During the evening Peter will introduce you to the worlds classic grape varieties - the Cabernets, the Pinot Noirs, the Chardonnays  - as well as some of the new kids on the block, like Albarino and Gruner Veltliner. Plus the basic tenets of wine enjoyment, such as how to read labels, how to taste properly and even how to deal with sommeliers. Where to buy and what to buy: how to find a bargain on a wine list.

And critically, for those who entertain either professionally or for pleasure :what works with what – the art and science of food and wine  matching.

Cost of the evening, which includes all wines and food, a bound set of the notes, and a signed diploma is £145 inc VAT.

The Food and Wine Matching with The Masters course starts in April, 2008, see The School Year
