The Don Restaurant
The Don is justly proud of its wine list of more than 400 wines and 25 Champagnes which has been awarded the prestigious international Best of Award Excellence from the Wine Spectator every year since its opening. “This award gives special recognition to restaurants that clearly exceed the requirements of the Award of Excellence. The lists typically offer 400 or more selections, along with superior presentation, and display either vintage depth, with several vertical offerings of top wines, or excellent breadth across several wine regions.”
The Don’s vinous history as bottling cellar started in 1798 and continued until 1969, while it is still reflected in our extensive collection of ports, sherries and Madeiras with vintages dating back to 1900. We also offer wide selection of wines available by glass, carafe and bottle and for those who want a very special glass, we have the unique Coravin machine.
The Don and Bleeding Heart are partners in the acclaimed New Zealand vineyard, Trinity Hill in Hawkes Bay, on east coast of the North Island. Named as one of New Zealand’s Top 10 wineries in Decanter magazine, Trinity Hill has gained a worldwide reputation for its wines, especially the reds from it Gimblett Gravels estate. Five of our wines have gained more than 90 points in Robert Parker’s seminal Wine Advocate Magazine: the Homage Syrah was the first New Zealand red to win a stunning 95 points!
