“From the corner wine cellar to the cheese trolley,
this is the way the world should be”- SquareMeal
The Don Restaurant, our flagship white tablecloth establishment provides an unrivalled combination of history and
modernity plus some of the City’s very best food and wine.
In 1342 it was the home of one of London’s great City Guilds , The Drapers, who rich on the profits of the British wool trade bought many of the buildings that line our cobblestoned Lane. In 1798 ,they leased it to a young Scottish entrepreneur George Sandeman as the headquarters for his newly established Sandeman Port and Sherry Company. George shipped his barrels of fortified wine across the Atlantic from Oporto and Jerez to blend and bottle them in the cellars below St Swithins Lane.
Modern European flavours dominate the menu, and in addition to our extensive a la Carte Menu we offer a fantastic value weekly set-menu. Our wine list has won a Wine Spectator Award, as one of the best in the world every year since we opened.
The Restaurant itself offers two light, airy and elegant dining rooms, both with large windows and both featuring some stunning paintings from one of Britain’s leading abstract painters, the late John Hoyland, RA as well as a cosy basement bistro, bar and several private dining spaces.
