“From the corner wine cellar to the cheese trolley,
this is the way the world should be.” – Square Meal
The Don Restaurant, located in the heart of the City of London, in a cobbled courtyard, is a sophisticated place in all senses where modern European flavors dominate the menu. The generously spaced, high-ceiling Hoyland Room is a picture of elegance, takes its name from one of Britain’s leading abstract painters John Hoyland, as seven of his original pieces are proudly showcased in the room.
The Don Bistro and Bar, are located just next door on St Swithins Lane. Our Private Dining Rooms are The City of London’s most charming and characterful venues for private events be they: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Champagne and Canapé Parties, Business Meetings, Corporate Dinners or Private Celebrations.
The Don in question is George Sandeman, a Scotsman who in 1798 took over these premises for his port, sherry and wine emporium. Serious imbibing is still central to the appeal of this vintage City aristocrat, and the list pays homage to the site’s heritage as well as highlighting wines from the owners’ Trinity Hill vineyard in New Zealand. Locals adore everything about The Don, from its “discreet” City of London courtyard location to its uniquely cosseting atmosphere – perfect for long business lunches or private dinners.
The late John Hoyland’s original works are spread throughout the ground floor, which have been blown up to create dramatic translucent blinds. We have a second dining room; The White Room with its dramatic 15 foot John Hoyland abstract paintings, Shooting Stars Adjoining the White Room, tucked in behind the Wine Wall, is the Wine Study.
